Amina Al- Said the First Egyptian Journalist in the History of the Arabs

Journalist Amina Al-Said, the first journalist in the history of the Egyptian press, was born, the first to defend women and embrace all their issues and problems. She is also the first Egyptian woman to attend university education. She was heavily sponsored by Huda Shaarawy, as she is the one who encouraged her to study and attend the Faculty of Arts Department of Language in 1931, at this time the great writer Taha Hussein was the dean of the faculty.

Amina Al Said graduated from the Faculty of Arts in the English Language Department in 1935. She founded a group of newspapers during her studies: Al Amal, Kawkab Al Sharq, and Asharqat, to become the first Egyptian journalist in the history of the Arabs. In 1954, Amin Zeidan published the magazine “Hawa” and Amina was appointed editor-in-chief and achieved great success.

It was not long before she became Editor in Chief of the magazine “Al-Musawar” after Fikri Abaza. Then she became the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Dar Al-Hilal, which publishes a number of newspapers. She became the first Egyptian woman to be the Chairman of the Board. She holds the position of Deputy Press Syndicate, and was a member of the Press Syndicate Council.

Amina Al-Said’s tender and giving did not stop at the press, but adopted all women’s issues. She was the first to oppose “female circumcision” and “women’s oppression”, and all underdevelopment and backwardness
which was experienced and suffered by the Egyptian women. Although extremists threatened to kill Amina and abduct her children, she did not retreat and continued its struggle against lagged and backwardness of the society, until she died on August 13,  1995.
